Steven W. Churchill, MNA

Steven W. Churchill is a leader with broad strategic experience in the public and private sectors. He is a founding partner of the Branstad Churchill Group.

Steve most recently served as Chief of Staff at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Churchill oversaw four consulates, nearly 50 federal agencies, and more than 2,500 employees. In his role as chief of staff, Churchill worked side by side with the ambassador on the strategic priorities for the United States Embassy in China.

Churchill worked with high-level administration officials throughout the federal government. Steve has worked with the White House, United States Trade Representative, Department of Commerce, as well members of Congress from both parties. He has advocated for a wide variety of causes on Capitol Hill in his capacities as a chief of staff and association executive.

Churchill served three terms in the Iowa Legislature and chaired the Economic Development Appropriations Committee. He also worked at the Iowa Department of Economic Development where he was responsible for attracting businesses to the state.

Before joining the Department of State, Churchill served as president & chief executive officer of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. Churchill also led the American Medical Association Foundation in Chicago and served as vice president of development and alumni relations at Des Moines University Medical School. His private sector experience includes launching his own consulting firm and as an executive with the Mid-America Commercial Real Estate Group.

A graduate of Iowa State University, Steve earned his master’s degree in nonprofit administration from the North Park University School of Business and Nonprofit Management in Chicago. He is a recipient of the Commander’s Award for Public Service from the U.S. Department of the Army and is a past International President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the nation’s largest collegiate social fraternity
